101 things

If at first you don’t succeed, try again. And that’s what I’ll be doing, for the third time, with the 101 things in 1001 Days project

Time has passed me by and especially 2018 has been a year of daily routines and being too lazy and comfortable in my new home to leave it. But I’m not going to let that happen to me again in 2019, and beyond. As I will challenge myself with yet another list of 101 things to do in 1001 days.

Some of the items on this list will be continuations or second attempts from the previous edition but I will also make some changes, and obviously add new challenges.

However, this time around I do want to focus more on experiencing things together with other people; my boyfriend, sister, parents, and friends. Because, no matter how cliché it might sound, it really is the experiences you share with others that stick with you the most. They are the experiences that become memories you treasure, and of which you will want continue sharing the story over and over again.

Sure it’s great if I don’t eat junk food for a month or finally start flossing every single day. But it would be so much more wonderful to share another trip with my family, or hold a Pokémon party with friends. Perhaps we’ll even bake a giant cookie or stuff our faces with marshmallows again to see how many we can fit.

I don’t necessarily need to travel far and wide to see the Northern Lights, or go out of my way to see 5 different European cities (even though I still want to do those things). Especially if there are plenty of things and moments I can still share with the people a little closer to home.

But most importantly I want the people around me to experience these (new) things with me. So we can look back at a bunch of new memories by the time I cross the final item off this list.

Personal Growth

1. Start finding a positive in each day (positivity jar)

2. Learn Japanese well enough to pass JLPT N5

3. Reach my goal weight by losing at least 8kg > 5kg > 3kg every year of this challenge. Read about it here.

4. Say yes to everything for a day (within reason)

5. Learn basic car maintenance

6. Learn three new braiding techniques

7. Learn to crack an egg with one hand

8. Learn to fold 10 different paper crafts (including an origami crane)

9. Ask 20 friends to suggest one book, and read them all

10. Join my friends in a 5km run

11. Donate blood regularly again

12. Start keeping track of a dream diary

13. Base all my decisions on the flip of a coin for a day

14. Register as a bone marrow donor

15. Learn how to open a bottle with a lighter


16. Start tracking my finances

17. Save € 5.000,- (besides my normal savings) and do something fun with it

18. Save $10 for every task I complete and after the project is finished take friends and family out for dinner

Friends & Family

19. Hold a movie marathon with friends or family and watch 10 classic movies I’ve never seen

20. Host a board games night

21. Throw a onesie/kigurumi party

22. Organise a Pokemon party

23. Go bowling

24. Make at least 5 different food gifts for friends and family

25. Make at least 5 different DIY gifts (excluding food) for friends and family

26. Celebrate an obscure holiday with friends

27. Get a “vriendenboekje” and have my friends and family fill it in, like the old days

28. Go camping with friends, even if it’s just a night (festival doesn’t count)

29. Have a luxury brunch somewhere fancy

30. Organise a brunch at home for friends and family

31. Gather friends for a drunken night of karaoke in an actual karaoke bar

32. Go on at least 10 different dates with the boyfriend (that don’t match up with an item on this list)

33. Go clay pigeon shooting

34. Play hide-and-seek at Ikea

35. Organise a picknick

37. Make an actual, physical, birthday calendar

Trips & Traveling

38. Visit at least 5 European cities outside of the Netherlands

88. Take picture of myself every first day of the month

89. Spend at least one day a month taking pictures of my figures/games

91. Make all the perler bead Pokémon (first generation)

92. Collect the entire Pokemon Base tcg card collection

93. Collect all the Pokémon Games on my list

94. Finish my garden, including a herb garden

96. Get another tattoo (preferably half-sleeve)

These next couple of items I would absolutely love the cross off my list but are a lot more difficult to realise for various reasons. So I will add them as bonus items. I will obviously do my best to make these happen but they are not key to the challenge.
