The end, and a new beginning

Suddenly (almost) three years have flown by and the end to the 101 things in 1001 days draws nearer as we get close to January 27th. As I look at my little blog I feel a little overwhelmed by this, especially as there are so many things on my list that I still haven’t completed. Or even started!

May 1st, 2016 was the second attempt at this project after losing all my progress in a website crash and not having a proper back-up. Fortunately I had only been going for a month or four before it happened but still, this is the second time I haven’t completed the list. And that feels kind of llame.

Thankfully there are plenty of things that I can cross off my list, some without even really trying. Like going vegetarian and vegan for a month or not drinking soda for a month (practically none by now). And even though I didn’t stick with veganism I am very close to being (almost entirely) vegetarian for over a year now.

I also managed to take my sister on her first trip with an airplane when we had a Girl’s Weekend in London with our mom. And as I bought a house (and car) with my boyfriend some other items on the list came easily too. Like writing a will, not buying anything that isn’t a necessity, and giving flowers to someone. But mostly, there are a lot of items that I still want to complete.

Reflecting on these past three years has made me notice that, especially in 2018, I really didn’t do much overall. I’ve been stuck in my daily routines, too preoccupied with my new job, and overall getting rather lazy and too comfortable lounging around in my pajamas. I had a good start in 2016, and managed to cross off quite a few items in 2017 as well, but 2018 has been awfully quiet.

Seeing this list again makes me a little angry even. I should’ve tried harder and done more things. Should’ve gone out of my way to complete some of these challenges and above all: I should’ve had a lot more fun with this project instead of ignoring it.

Sure, I could rush through the list before January 27th and probably manage to complete another 10, perhaps 15 or even 20 items but I feel that that would defeat the purpose of the project.

So for 2019 and beyond I’m going to do it all over again! But with a new list, new motivation and this time a better plan of attack to actually go through with all of this. Some of the items will return but I also want to challenge myself more and focus on experiencing new things with friends and family.

As they say: three times a charm, and I’m definitely going to make it happen this time. Hopefully you’ll stick around for the ride!

For good measure here are all the completed, uncompleted and in progress items on the list that I attempted to check off this time. Curious to see what I have planned for part II? Then continue reading here.
